In this respect: yes, what is there is good, but it could have been more.
Even the CD included with the Collectors Edition of the fifth part had over 20 tracks, in Japan there are completely different collections. And it’s not as if there wasn’t enough material to at least fill the often large empty space at the end. The B-side of Soul Calibur only has six minutes, so you could have gone straight to 45, because even if the sound quality is basically flawless and only a little if Anyway, is plagued by surface noise, this is not an audiophile mix that could possibly explain such a site usage. Some pages only have ten minutes, most not even that. What is a bit surprising is the generally short playing time.

As a fan, however, how would it have been to pick seven heroes who were there from the beginning and follow them completely through the years? Certainly not exciting for the average listener, but let’s be honest: Which casual fan of the series gets this? Just a thought, because what it says – “Best of” – the mixed selection works wonderfully.
The tracks were picked too wildly, apparently it was about general popularity, which probably fits the best-of motif and of course provides more variety over the playing time of all records. That is all well and good for the main motif, but unfortunately the other motifs of the individual heroes cannot be followed in a similar way. The main motif runs through the years, which was initially an interpretation on expensive synthesizers, quickly transforms into an ever larger orchestra and so you also follow the development of the series through the iterations, comparable to the figures that change over the years in the covers. You won’t find these exceptions here, so you can basically summarize everything: This is the soundtrack with which you conquer castles. Bombast trailer classic at its best and that is a style to which the series has remained true to for over 20 years with a few exceptions. That means a lot of strings, wind instruments and big drums. Chic and above all with the track list and page number. If there were no small air pockets here and there, one might think that it was part of the vinyl. Interesting are the labels on the records, which are stuck on, but somehow look hot afterwards. It feels valuable, but not as massive as the 180s. The vinyl is black throughout and there is no other edition, runs at 33 and should be 140g. If you come to the plates themselves, you have a pure paper sleeve inside without antistatic film, which allows you to reach for the brush directly. The entire design of the box and the cover is very coherent and successful, it is a nice little treasure for fans alone. The back is like that of the box, it always shows the logo and the track list. A nice fan gimmick, but a few lines from the composer or the developer would have been okay too. Mitsurugi has aged a little in between, but seems to be on the mend, Sophitia’s b*****s grew with each part. Each of the seven characters is shown here in all the games in which it appeared and how it has changed. Each is adorned with an interpretation of the character based on the original cover, each has a hero or villain. This one record is by no means used to the maximum, there are always only three tracks per side, six tracks per game, because of course every record is intended for one of the Soul Caliburs – kindly you didn’t forget Soul Blade, this is the seventh record. On the shelf, however, the thing is a real eye-catcher and one of the largest boxes in the gaming soundtrack genre to date.Įach of the seven gatefold sleeves contains only one plate, which is due to the best-of character of the whole. The front of the box is adorned with a medley of the fighters in the series, in the back all tracks are nicely listed, even including the running time, there is only room for a somewhat ugly sword in the middle. Latest round: Soul Calibur 6.Įditions: There is exactly one and it has it all: The huge cardboard slipcase, open at the back, made of sturdy cardboard, with its stylish sword on its back, holds no less than seven gatefold sleeves.
